Russia and India discuss cooperation in tiger leopard protection
2018-11-09

According to the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia, on September 11, Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Kobelkin and Indian Minister of Industry and Commerce Prabhu met in Vladivostok to exchange views on cooperation in environmental protection and resources.

Kobelkin pointed out that there are many tiger populations in India and Russia has a unique Northeast Tiger. It is hoped that in 2022, the two sides will jointly summarize the implementation and results of the resolution of the 2010 St. Petersburg Tiger Protection Forum.

Prab said that Russia is rich in natural resources, so the rational use and management of natural resources is an important task. For India, because of the relative lack of natural resources, its protection work is more important. At present, India has found an increase in the number of tigers, with more than 3,000 tigers.

In view of the fact that both Russia and India are participating in the global tiger and snow leopard protection plan, during the meeting, the two sides discussed issues such as the establishment of the Tiger Leopard Protection Working Group and the exchange of policies and regulations. At the same time, the Indian side expressed positive comments on the "Ecology" project that Russia is developing and implementing, and expressed its willingness to participate in joint projects in the field of environmental protection and resources.
