Russia will carry out investigations on protected areas

According to the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia on August 31, Minister Kebeljin held a meeting with the heads of large Russian nature reserves and national parks to discuss the related work of Russian national protected areas. Participants exchanged views on the management of the protected area system, the development prospects of ecotourism, and the number of tourists in protected areas.

Kobelkin pointed out that the construction of protected areas is an important part of President Putin’s order signed in May, that is, 24 new protected areas will be built by 2024, and the protected area will be expanded by 5 million hectares. Therefore, there is also a special biodiversity conservation plan in the national project “ecology”.

In order to assess the status of the protected area, Kobelkin requested the inventory of federal-level protected areas. At the same time, the demarcation and registration of protected areas will be carried out to study the procedures, methods and sources of funding for new protected areas.
