Kazakhstan will revise the contents of the Eco-Code on environmental impact assessment

According to the website of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, on September 5th, the draft amendments to the "Environmental Code" were made by representatives of the Working Group on Environmental Legislation Improvement of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy, representatives of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the OSCE, other relevant agencies and social representatives of Kazakhstan. have a discussion. The draft was formulated by the Ministry of Energy and was strongly supported and participated by experts at home and abroad.

Kazakhstan joined the Espoo Convention (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe 's Transboundary Environmental Impact Assessment Convention) in 2001 and has always complied with the relevant requirements of the international convention on environmental impact assessment. This revision aims to improve the content of the EIA in the Eco-Code and establish a modern EIA system in accordance with the Espoo Convention. At the same time, the introduction of strategic environmental assessment is also part of this revision.

This revision work is supported by the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the OSCE and is one of the measures for Kazakhstan 's transition to a green economy.
