President Nazarbayev clarifies Kazakhstan position on transnational watercourse issues

According to the Harbin News Agency, on October 10th, the eighth meeting of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Protection and Use of Transnational Watercourses and International Lakes was held in Astana. President Nazarbayev made an important speech through the video.

President Nazarbayev said, "This is the first time that the Conference of the Parties to the Convention is held in the Asian region. It is of great significance. The number of parties is gradually increasing. It can be seen that the world 's water use issues are receiving more and more attention. There are more than 260 in the world. A transnational waters occupying half of the Earth 's area and 40% of the world 's population live in the area. Therefore, the rational use of water resources and transnational rivers is one of the priorities in the field of international relations."

President Nazarbayev made recommendations on the world 's water resources management. First, innovative approaches should be used to protect people 's and economic sectors ' transnational water resources. Second, global water resources strategies should be based on water-saving technologies. Third, focus should be on reducing water pollution. Fourth, strengthen the field. Scientific and technical cooperation, especially the training of professional engineers and experts.
