Environmental Protection Department of Tajikistan Expresses Views on the Projects Built in Tajikistan by China
2016-01-19

According to a dispatch from the Independent News Network of Tajikistan on January 19, Shams Nazarov - the Vice Chairman of Committee on the Environment of Tajikistani Government - told reporters that the cement plant constructed in cooperation with Chinese enterprises in Tajikistan will not cause any damage to the ecology of Tajikistan. Nazarov said that these projects were built in accordance with the treaty signed by and between China and Tajikistan, with Chinese technology as a guarantee, and that the cement plant meets all environmental requirements and is equipped with the best air purification equipment.

Also, Nazarov pointed out that something is still wrong with Dushanbe No. 2 Thermal Power Station at present. This thermal power station was built by TBEA Co., Ltd. of China and then transformed completely. Before the commissioning of the second phase of the thermal power station, the sulfur purifying equipment still can’t work. So far, the second phase of the project has not yet been completed.

The first unit of Dushanbe No. 2 Thermal Power Station was commissioned in January 2014. At that time, it was said that the new thermal power station using state-of-the-art science and technology met all the environmental standards and requirements. However, residents near the station are still complaining about the dust and smog generated by the power station. The second phase of the thermal power station will have been completed by 2017.
