Flue Gas Desulfurization and Denitration Project of 2×360 m2 Sintering Machine of Hanbao Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. of Handan Iron and Steel Group in Hebei Province, China

2. Major environmental problems to be addressed

Emission control of SO2 and NOx in sintering flue gas.

3. Environmental standards and/or main index limits to be followed

According to the Ultra-low Emission Standard of Air Pollutants of Iron and Steel Industry (DB 13/2169-2018), the purified flue gas shall achieve ultra-low emission, with particulate matter emission concentration≤10 mg/m3, SO2 emission concentration≤35mg/m3 and NOx emission concentration≤50 mg/m3.

4. Technological process

The limestone-gypsum wet process was originally used for desulfurization, and then the reverse flow SCR active carbon desulfurization and denitration technology was adopted for renovation. The sintering flue gas was desulfurized through the desulfurization bed of the adsorption tower, then mixed with atomized ammonia water in the intermediate air chamber behind the desulfurization bed, and denitrated through the denitration bed.

5. Environmental pollution control effects

Before renovation, SO2 concentration in flue gas was 130~140 mg/m³, NOx concentration (taking NO2 was 270~300 mg/m³ and particulate matter concentration was 30~40 mg/m³; after renovation, SO2 emission concentration was≤10 mg/m³, NOx concentration (taking NO2, with 8% O2 was ≤50 mg/m³ and particulate matter emission concentration was ≤10 mg/m³.

6. Investment and operation cost

The project investment was about RMB 300 million and the operation cost was RMB 20~23/t·sinter.

Highlights: The project is a model for using activated carbon for desulfurization and denitration, with high desulfurization and denitration efficiency, low system resistance and small floor space.
