Flue Gas Desulfurization Project of EREN ZETES Power Plant Phase III 2×660 MW Supercritical Coal-Fired Power Plant in Turkey

It is near Muslu-Çatalağzı, ZONGULDAK Province in Black Sea Region in northern Turkey, bordering on the Black Sea and more than 200 km away from Ankara, the capital of Turkey.

Flue gas desulfurization of 2×660 MW coal-fired power plant.

(4) Date of operation:

June 2016.

(5) Investment, construction and operation:

The project is invested and operated by the Owner, Harbin Electric International Co., Ltd. is the EPC contractor and Beijing Guodian Longyuan Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd. is the construction unit of the desulfurization system.

2. Major environmental problems to be addressed

Emission control of SO₂ in flue gas from the coal-fired power plant.

3. Environmental standards and/or main index limits to be followed

Directive 2001/80/EC on the limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air from large combustion plants, SO₂ emission concentration＜200 mg/m³.

4. Technological process

The limestone-gypsum wet flue gas desulfurization process is adopted, including absorption of SO₂ in flue gas, absorbent storage and preparation, desulfurization by-product dewatering, etc.

5. Environmental pollution control effects

The project was newly built, with SO₂ concentration in flue gas before desulfurization＜4,100 mg/m³, SO₂ emission concentration after desulfurization＜150 mg/m³.

6. Social benefits

The project has controlled SO₂ emissions from the local coal-fired power plant. The construction of the power plant has eased the power shortage in Turkey. In May 2018, at the 24th International Energy Congress & Expo in Turkey, it won the Best Coal-Fired Power Plant Project Award of Turkey and Best EPC Contractor Award for the Coal-Fired Power Plant.

7. Economic benefits

The procurement of products and services during construction and operation of the power plant can advance the development of local industries and economy.

Project significance: It is the first major project of Chinese EPC enterprises in Europe during construction of the “Belt and Road”. It is a model green power plant in Turkey and also a typical project of Chinese electric power environmental protection enterprises in countries along the “Belt and Road”. It has established a good image of Chinese enterprises in the local community with excellent engineering quality.
