2. Major environmental problems to be addressed

Control of the discharged industrial wastewater generated by the project, which contains pollutants such as F- and P2O5.

3. Environmental standards and/or main index limits to be followed

According to TCVN 5945-1995 Level B, F≤5 mg/L and P2O5≤6 mg/L.

4. Technological process

The two-stage neutralization and two-stage sedimentation method is adopted.

5. Environmental pollution control effects

For the influent, F-≤3,200 mg/L, SO4²-≤1,500 mg/L, P2O5≤2,000 mg/L, SS≤2,000 mg/L, pH≈1.0;

For the effluent after treatment, F-≤5 mg/L, TP≤6 mg/L, SS100 mg/L and pH 6~8.5.

6. Social benefits

The completion and operation of the project contributed to local water pollution control, local economic development and friendship between China and Vietnam, and provided about 1,000 jobs to the local people. The signing of the project contract was witnessed by the then top leaders of both countries, including General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President Hu Jintao of China, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh and President Tran Duc Luong of Vietnam.

7. Economic benefits

The industrial structure of Vietnam is dominated by agriculture, with a large number of agricultural and sideline products exported each year. However, the diammonium phosphate fertilizer needed for agriculture has relied upon imports for a long time. The operation of the 330 MTA diammonium phosphate project put an end to Vietnam's long-term dependence on imported diammonium phosphate fertilizer, with an output equivalent to one third of the imports.
